East York Toronto Singer : Where can I go this summer to advance my Singing?


Toronto Vocal Instructor : Each Summer Singers from all parts of Toronto and beyond come to study with me. Summer is a great time to really dive into your voice.


East York Toronto Singer : How does the program work and how is this Summer Singing Program different from other workshops?


Toronto Vocal Instructor : Many singing workshops are run by singing teachers who are using traditional vocal teaching methods.


The challenge with these traditional singing techniques is that they can work very slowly.


Just singing a lot in the summer on your own or in a workshop setting doesn't give you the change you want. This can improve your voice but many Singers after doing a lot of singing find it challenging because they've reach limitations and can't get through them.


They realize that they need to change and then they come to someone like me.



East York Toronto Singer : They would have been better off learning the right techniques to begin with.



Toronto Vocal Instructor : I teach Singers how to zero in on the changes they need to make and we go in with a lazer-beam focus on making these changes right away.



East York Toronto Singer : How much can a Singer learn, or change as you say, in a summer?



A LOT can happen in a summer intensive program because you are so focussed and your rate of change can be dramatic as you apply what you learn each session.



The techniques I teach are very different and take advantage of the cutting-edge developments that have taken place in modern vocal instruction within the last few decades.



These modern teaching techniques are results-based and are very effective. They work faster and more efficiently. They also are superb at developing a free voice which you can use for many of the musical styles you like to sing.



East York Toronto Singer : Are group classes best or is individual instruction best if I really want to grow?



Toronto Vocal Instructor : By far individual instruction is best from my experience. In a group each Singer has different needs and the vocal coach can only work at the lowest common level of change.



For instance, if they is a specific change you are ready for you can get it right away with private instruction which is far more effective than waiting for the group.


Each session you can make specific changes to your voice.


East York Toronto Singer : How many sessions do you recommend each week?



Toronto Vocal Instructor : Each session I'll give you a lot to work on. I recommend sessions once a week or more frequently.


East York Toronto Singer : What musical styles of Singing can we work on together?


Toronto Vocal Instructor : What singing styles make your heart sing the most?



East Toronto Singer : We can sing what I want to sing?


Toronto Vocal Instructor : Singers should find what makes them happy. They should also learn to sing what gives them the most growth. A balance is important.



I often have recommendations for styles to try because by learning that style it give the Singer a great boost in the other styles they love as well.


East York Toronto Singer : What about styles popular, rock or musical theatre?


Toronto Vocal Instructor : There are a LOT of great Singers in these genres to model. We often choose these.


It depends on where you want to take your voice. Then we go there.


East York Toronto Singer : Sounds great! I'm ready to take my singing voice to the next level.
